AUSTIN (AP) For the second year in a row, Texas’ bathroom safety ranking dropped in 2016 to 69th.
The Associated Press ranked the state No. 1 in 2017, with the highest number of bathroom incidents per 100,000 people in the country.
That ranks the state below only Hawaii and Montana.
“We had a pretty decent year in 2017,” said Jeff Miller, the state’s secretary of safety and security.
“We had one incident per 100 people.
That was pretty decent.
We had about 50 incidents per day.”
Miller says the biggest reason for the dip is the recent coronavirus pandemic.
The last time the state topped 100 was in 2010.
Texas also ranked No. 2 in the nation in the number of fatalities, with 539.
The next highest state was California, with about 482.
But the state was tied with Texas for the third-highest number of injuries and fatalities.
